Two hearts beat within your body… What could be more magical than pregnancy? You are changing and yet have never been more full of life and beauty! It is not easy, but when was it easy for dreams to come alive?

You are doing great, keep up the positivity. This is a rare journey, a path you may not tread too often. Relish all of it, even amidst challenges like constipation. You have reached week 10 in your pregnancy journey. How are you doing?

MOM-TO-BE

This week you may be struggling with constipation. It is a problem that many pregnant women face and includes hard-to-pass stools, difficulty in passing stools, and irregular bowel habits.

It can give you a really hard time and also a feeling of being all clogged up. There may be many biological and even psychological causes for developing constipation1. Some of its causes include:

Hormones may have a hand in the development of this problem. For instance, progesterone plays a role in slowing bowel movement.
Anxiety and stress can contribute to constipation, and there is a connection between sleep deprivation and anxiety. These factors can ultimately lead to constipation. It’s important to prioritize relaxation and stress reduction. Remember that you are no longer alone, and any anxiety you experience affects both you and your precious baby.
Your dietary habits can also lead to constipation. Consume the recommended amount of fibre in your diet. With all the vomiting that you are having, are you taking enough water and other fluids like juices?
What you eat and drink also affects the smooth functioning of your bowels. If you have been skipping your breakfast, then that could also influence your bowel movement
A very sedentary lifestyle can lead to constipation as well. Do not hold in your bowel movements. When you feel the need to go, do not delay or suppress this urge. Regularly delaying and controlling may have a negative effect on your bowel habits.

Tips on constipation for the Mom-To-Be

Here are a few tips for mom-to-be to navigate constipation and other pregnancy symptoms:

1.Constipation:

Discuss this problem with your doctor as it can hinder your pregnancy journey. The doctor will guide you on how to tackle this problem correctly. The doctor will also tell you if any medications are to be taken or not. Never take over-the-counter medications. We have suggested a few ideas to help reduce the problem of constipation:

Drink sufficient quantity of water. Include whole grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and dry fruits in your diet for their rich dietary fiber content. These fibers promote healthy bowel movements. Consult with your doctor to determine which foods to avoid and which ones are beneficial for your daily diet. Create a nutritious meal plan based on their recommendations.
De-stress and try to get good sleep. How you feel plays a big role in the functioning of your body.
In keeping with your doctor’s guidance, plan a stroll or exercise regimen. This refreshes the body and mind.

2. Food cravings:

Are you craving that brownie with ice cream, pickles, or cheesy bites? We understand the sudden urge for certain food items. However, take a moment to consider if they align with the healthy food list advised by your doctor.

Ensure it’s safe for both you and your baby and avoid overeating. While it’s important to enjoy your pregnancy, prioritize a healthy diet. Remember, you’re a mom-to-be on a mission!

3. Fatigue :

We hope the feeling of relentless tiredness that has been bothering you gradually reduces soon. Are you getting a good night’s sleep? Consider picking up a book and get reading. This will distract you and brighten up your mood!

4. Exercises:

Have you started following the exercise regimen your doctor advised? This will help you feel upbeat and healthy.

5. Heartburn, gastritis, and morning sickness:

It is probably ironic that pregnancy makes you so happy and nauseated. You have held on great… keep it up… It is difficult but your baby will be worth it!
